Price Plunge for Half Term Swimmers
Launched to coincide with the autumn half-term, Social Enterprise and leading leisure operator GLL is offering under 16s across London the chance to swim at 12 of its leisure centre swimming pools for just £1 per session.
The 'Kids for a quid' initiative was launched by former Olympic Swimmer Mark Foster at Leyton Leisure Lagoon in Waltham Forest on 25th October 2010. It means that for less than the price of a burger, tube ticket or DVD hire, youngsters can have fun, get fit and learn an essential life skill.
Mark Sesnan, Managing Director of GLL said; "As the nights draw in and outside play is limited, swimming is a great way for kids to stay fit and active over the winter months. The 'Kids for a Quid' scheme makes swimming a fun, affordable option for everyone."
Mark Foster added, "I'm delighted to be supporting the Kids for a Quid Scheme. For a minimal cost under 16 year olds can access fantastic swimming facilities, enjoy a healthy and sociable sport and spend their leisure time in a safe and supervised environment.
"Swimming is a fantastic leisure pursuit and I'm keen to encourage more youngsters to get involved. It offers huge health and social benefits, while the more competitive the forthcoming 2012 London Games offer great inspiration and incentive to train hard.
"GLL's commitment to making swimming accessible to all members of society, through schemes such as Kids for a Quid is commendable, particularly in the light of recent Government cuts."
For those wishing to do more than have fun in the pool, tuition for every level of swimmer from complete beginner to the more experienced is available at the London Swim School - which operates within pools across the Capital. Lessons are open to all ages and and take place both during term-time and school holidays.
