Principal acquires Hawkstone Park Hotel for £11m

Permira’s Principal Hotels has acquired the Hawkstone Park Hotel & Country Club in Shrewsbury, Shropshire for a reported £11m.
The 66-room hotel, set on 400 acres of land and boasting two golf courses, is central to Manchester and Birmingham and has been open since 1790.
Principal plans to expand the hotel to more than 120 rooms and introduce new spa facilities and conference suites.
Sandy Lyle – the former Open and Masters golf champion – was taught how to play the game at Hawkstone Park by his father Alex, himself a former professional.
Principal also recently acquired the five-star St David’s Hotel & Spa in Cardiff from Rocco.
