PGA TOUR Spa Laterra, a destination spa based on therapies used in the training of professional golfers, opens to the public this week in north east Florida.

The spa is located in Laterra, the new resort community in the World Golf Village, also home to the King & Bear and Slammer & Squire golf clubs, Serenata Beach Club and the World Golf IMAX Theater.

Established through a partnership between PGA TOUR and Laterra’s developer Hillman Properties, the spa was designed by architect Robert D Henry – creator of the Donald Trump Mar-A-Lago Club Spa & Resort at Palm Beach and the Spa at Amelia Island – and is part of the $20m first phase of Laterra's luxury resort and spa residences.

It becomes the first spa to bear the TOUR name, after a combination of spa therapies, personal fitness training and professional golf instruction was successful for golfers on the PGA TOUR – an organisation of tournament players that works alongside the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA).

The spa’s director, Ashley Szemes, said: “We looked at the needs of golfers and created signature spa treatments to help players improve their game.”

The 15,900sq ft (1,477sq m) PGA TOUR Spa Laterra comprises a 12,900sq ft spa (1,198sq m) and a 2,420sq ft (225sq m) fitness centre.

It has 11 treatment rooms, including the Garden Sanctuary, a couple’s treatment area, four massage rooms and a hydrotherapy room.

Manicures, pedicures, hairstyling and skincare products are available in the spa’s salon and retail shop.

A limited number of memberships are currently available and gift certificates are now being sold.

Guests can book a studio, one-, two-, or three-bedroom suite through on-site rental management company, Laterra Resort and Spa -– a division of Sandestin Resort and Spa, whose parent company, Intrawest Corporation, is the leading developer and operator of village-centred resorts across North America.
