Public consultation begins on Wyre Forest leisure centre
Wyre Forest District Council is consulting residents on facilities they would like to see in a new leisure centre planned for Kidderminster.
The council is in the process of purchasing land and obtaining outline planning permission for the proposed centre on the former Victoria Sports Ground.
It has already established the new centre willl include a sports hall, 25m swimming pool, learner pool, a gym, and small outdoor synthetic football pitches. There will also be a café, bar and fitness studios.
A review of leisure provision in the district revealed a new centre would provide better quality facilities and save money in the long term.
Councillor Ian Hardiman, responsible for community wellbeing, said the new centre would likely open in 2015, and other centres would remain open until then.
Hardiman said the council was still assessing whether Stourport Sports Centre and Bewdley Leisure Centre would remain open, but the Glades would definitely close.
