Public pools health issues forum to be held
Splash! magazine is to host a public forum next month addressing key health issues in public pools.
The event, entitled SPLASH! Disinfection By-Products Forum, will take place on Thursday 8 November at the University of NSW.
The forum will address questions such as ‘Do chlorinated pools cause asthma?’, ‘What are the dangers of UV when combined with chlorine?’ and ‘Is bladder cancer a real concern for aquatic centre employees and swimmers?’.
The program will include key presentations from the US-based World Aquatic Health Conference, including two from Drs Blatchley and Li, who will be reporting the findings of an NSPF-sponsored study into the chemistry and prevention of DBP formation (including trihalomethanes) in systems with UV radiation in chlorinated swimming pools.
