Public sector day spa opens in North Wales
The launch of Wales' first public sector day spa at Deeside Leisure Centre in Queensferry, Flintshire, has marked the completion of an extensive £5.5m refurbishment of the facility.
Afon Spa has opened along with the Evolution Extreme Centre, which was the final phase of the project undertaken by Flintshire County Council (FCC) alongside Alliance Leisure.
The spa houses four treatment rooms and heat experiences, which include a herb sauna and a crystal steamroom. A salt grotto, an igloo, a spa pool and an aroma room also feature.
Product suppliers used at the spa include Decléor, Jessica and St Tropez. Afon Other spa facilities include a manicure and pedicure area, heated loungers and a relaxation area
Meanwhile, the Evolution Extreme Centre is the first indoor extreme sporting complex to be opened in Wales and incorporates a large skate park. ISG helped deliver the new facilities.
FCC executive member for leisure and public protection Dennis Hutchinson said: "I believe that we have created something truly inspirational for each generation of the community.
"Our aim is to encourage more people of all ages to keep fit and active and these first-class facilities will certainly inspire people to take part in regular exercise and have fun while they're doing it."
Earlier phases of the Deeside Leisure Centre revamp included the opening of an 80-station gym last summer and six floodlit five-a-side football pitches, which were unveiled in late 2010.
