PureGym is preparing to launch four new group exercise formats – HIIT, weights, mobility and flexibility and spin – which have been developed in partnership with SH1FT Fitness.

This is an extension of a collaboration between the low-cost operator and the group fitness provider that started last year. Four existing class formats have also been revamped: cardio, strength, core, and legs, bums and tums. Live in-club testing has been carried out and PureGym says the results have been positive.

Hugh Hanley, group director of personal training at PureGym says this will give members more variety, better experiences and greater access to innovative fitness programmes: “What drove us to partner with SH1FT is its approach to group fitness – simple, non-intimidating but effective. Together, we’ve created a suite of inclusive fitness classes where everybody is welcome, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes.”

Part of the offering is a tech stack, a training framework and class delivery app that simplifies the teaching process and empowers instructors to confidently deliver group exercise classes.

“With more fitness coaches offering to teach at our gyms, the PureGym teaching app that SH1FT developed for us has transformed our new fitness coaches, giving them a confidence I’ve never seen before,” says Hanley.

Will Brereton, founder of SH1FT Fitness says: "Our mission is to make group fitness accessible to both class members and instructors. We’re really proud of what we’ve created with PureGym. This partnership has not only grown its group fitness offering but has also increased instructor engagement.”

Last month PureGym announced a change of CEO. After 10 years, Humphrey Cobbold is moving to chair, with Clive Chesser coming across from the hospitality industry to head up the company as it plans upwards of 300 new sites in the next four years.
