QHotels has acquired its first property in Scotland, increasing its portfolio of hotels to eight.

Purchased from Morton Properties, the 100-bedroom, four-star Westerwood Hotel is located in 400 acres of Cumbernauld countryside.

It boasts a leisure club comprised of a 15m indoor pool, a spa bath, a steamroom, a sauna, a gym, a health and beauty salon and outdoor tennis courts.

The hotel also features an 18-hole golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros and Dave Thomas.

Michael Purtill, managing director of QHotels, said: “The Westerwood Hotel is a significant acquisition in our expanding portfolio. The hotel offers great business, golf and leisure facilities and adds the first Scottish hotel to the group.”

The hotel was acquired for an undisclosed sum and will, subject to planning, now benefit from a £5m investment. The project will include the complete refurbishment of all public areas, the leisure club, the restaurant and the bar. The proposed work also includes new conference and increased accommodation facilities.

QHotels has also received full planning consent to transform Norton Manor in Wiltshire into a four-star hotel.

The alterations – scheduled for March – will include landscaping the hotel’s 50 acres of parkland, relocating the main entrance, increasing the number of bedrooms from 97 to 185, creating a conference centre and completely refurbishing and rebranding the bar, dining and leisure facilities.

Andrew Mosley, general manager of Norton Manor, said: “The plans for expansion and refurbishment are really exciting and the £11m investment will bring the hotel complex into a new league, as a first choice venue for leisure breaks and weddings and as a premier conferencing venue.

“We are also aiming to attract local residents with the creation of a contemporary and vibrant restaurant and the further establishment of an exclusive members-only leisure and fitness club.”

Leeds-based QHotels plans to continue expanding over the next 12 months. Details: www.qhotels.co.uk
