Queen accepts ETC award
The English Tourism Council (ETC) has announced that the Queen is to accept a Jubilee Award in recognition of her support for tourism. Overseas visitors cite royal heritage as one of the most appealing characteristics of England.
The award, presented to the Duke of York on behalf of the Queen, at the Safeway Excellence in England Awards in London, is to recognise the Queen's 'personal support for tourism' and her role as the figurehead of England's heritage.
Sixty-three per cent of overseas visitors say their main reason for coming to the UK is the country's heritage. In recent ETC research 'majesty, traditions and royal heritage' were highlighted by visitors as their main priority for visiting England.
ETC Board chair, Alan Britten says there is no doubt that England's heritage is the bedrock of the nation's appeal to visitors from home and abroad: 'Her Majesty's personal contribution to maintaining that appeal during her reign has been unwavering and immeasurable.
'We are extremely honoured that she has agreed to accept this unique award during her Golden Jubilee year,' he said. Details: +44 (0)20 8563 3354
