RBC calls for Magna Carta project support
Runnymede Borough Council (RBC) has met with local residents and groups to discuss a proposed project that would mark the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.
A permanent visitor centre with interpretation area and facilities for community use feature as part of the council's plans for the scheme, which is earmarked for completion in 2015.
RBC chief executive Paul Turrell said that a "solid business case" is needed to secure the necessary funding, with community involvement a key component in the project's success.
Turrell said: "We have been told by the Heritage Lottery Fund that the type and quality of outreach work from the centre, involving schools, voluntary organisations and the community is very important to our bid.
"We need residents' input into the kinds of activity the Visitors' Centre can offer and how we can reach out to community groups of all ages and interests."
