Rainbow Leisure Centre opens in Epsom
Epson and Ewell Borough Council has opened the new £8m Rainbow Leisure Centre in Epsom town centre.
The centre, which opened on 5 April, will be managed by Greenwich Leisure (GLL) on behalf of the council until 2018 and was developed by Alfred MacAlpine Special Projects and architects Saville Jones. It replaces the old 1930's Rainbow Leisure Centre which was demolished 18 months ago.
The centre includes a 25m lane-swimming pool and a 25m teaching pool with beach effect, two spa pools and a mushroom spray; a 900sq m, 120 station gym equipped by Technogym and a health suite with steamroom, sauna and spa pool.
There are also two 14x12m dance studios, two Rink indoor bowls rinks, a sports hall with four badminton courts, a café, juice bar and creche.
The centre offers both pay and play and membership options, with special family and children's activities through the FAB - Fantastic Amazing Brilliant - programme; including family swim and fun sessions, Kool Crew holiday play schemes, Swim School and Football Academy.
Councillor Jean Steer, chair of Epsom and Ewell Borough Council's leisure committee, said: 'This is a wonderful building for the relaxation and leisure of the community and will help generate good health and wellbeing for many - and it opened on time and on budget!'
GLL, a not for profit leisure trust, currently manages 27 leisure centres within the M25. Details: www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk
