Chef Gordon Ramsay picked up two awards at this year's London TimeOut Eating & Drinking Awards for Best New Restaurant - Gordon Ramsay at Claridges and the Special Award for Outstanding Achievement.

TimeOut says no other chef is as much in the public eye, yet as much misunderstood: 'Ramsay has really come of age in the last year. His restaurant empire has grown from the eponymous Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, and then Pétrus in St James's, to Glasgow and even Dubai; yet the highest standards have been maintained.'

The Social (W1), named as Best DJ Bar, is part of the Cantaloupe group, which includes Cantaloupe, Cargo and Market Place, which has a 'roster of imaginative events'. Best Local was named as La Trompette that 'all but purrs with well-placed confidence', while Best Family award went to Carluccio's Caffé, cited its staff as having 'raffish charm'.
