Record results but profits down at easyJet
Budget airline, easyJet, has reported record full year results to 30 September .
Revenue for the period was up 69 per cent to £932m and profit before non-trading items, goodwill and tax, helped by a strong second half, rose 7 per cent to £96m.
However, pre-tax profit fell 28 per cent to £52m, the drop due to the effects of the war in Iraq as well as costs incurred with the integration of Go and the withdrawal from an option to buy Deutsche BA.
The year saw passenger numbers up 79 per cent to 20.3m, 21 new routes launched and the introduction to the fleet of its first Airbus A319.
Company chief executive, Ray Webster, said: “This has been a year of two halves, with a challenging first half and a return to strong profits in the second.”
Looking ahead, he said: "In the current financial year, we are planning capacity growth in the order of 20 per cent. Although there remains a degree of uncertainty, the economic environment is improving and is substantially better than this time last year. I am cautiously optimistic about our performance in the current year.” Details: www.easyjet.com
