Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre in Salford has reopened following a £2.8m redevelopment.
Works included a complete refurbishment of the centre's swimming pool and an extension to the health and fitness club as well as the creation of a new squash court and a four court sports hall that can be used for football, basketball, netball, trampolining, gymnastics and sports courses.
Disabled access to the centre has also been improved as part of plans to prepare for increased interest in physical activities following the Paralympic Games.
Funding for the works came from Hamilton Davies Trust, Sport England and Salford City Council, which owns the centre. The facility is managed by Salford Community Leisure on behalf of the council.
City Mayor Ian Stewart said: "The reopening of the centre couldn't come at a better time, with the Paralympics and Olympics increasing people's enthusiasm for trying new sports.
"This can only help us in our bid to make Salford a healthier city, but it also creates a community hub for the area."
