Regina stadium site in line for revamp
Pat Fiacco, mayor of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, has unveiled major new proposals for the future redevelopment of two prime locations in the heart of the city.
A total of 53 acres (21.4 hectares) are set to be transformed under the plans, which includes 20.14 acres (8.15 hectares) of city-owned lands around the Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field. The other site is the 32.91-acre (13.31-hectare) CP container yard lands and it is hoped that private sector investment will deliver retail, entertainment and commercial facilities.
A new corporation - Regina Revitalization - has been established to push forward the plans, which will see a new sports and arts venue at the CP site as part of a first phase. The second phase would include the Mosaic Stadium land, featuring residential units and an extensive commercial development.
Fiacco said: "There are few chances in the history of a city, like we have today, to make such a positive impact on the future of Regina. With this vision, the private sector will play a major role in this development."
