Restaurant Group dismisses BAA airport threat
By Pete Hayman
The Restaurant Group has rejected a suggestion that its airport businesses could be hit by the possible break-up of BAA's ownership monopoly.
The company's TRG Concessions division currently operates outlets in seven UK airports, including London Heathrow and Birmingham International. As reported in the Financial Times, analysts KBC Peel Hunt predicted that if some of BAA's airports got new owners, they may decide to bring in other companies to run the concessions. However, airport outlets represent 17 per cent of the Restaurant Group's operations, and its chief executive Andrew Page said that if BAA is forced to sell some of its airports, it would be more of an opportunity for the company. A spokesperson also said that the remaining 83 per cent of the Restaurant Group's business, which includes over 150 Frankie & Benny's sites, would be "totally unaffected" by any break-up of BAA.
