Rezidor SAS Hospitality has opened its first European Park Inn property in Berlin.

The 1,006-room former Forum Hotel Berlin, located in Alexanderplatz, is the first manifestation of Rezidor's new role as the European arm of America's Carlson Hospitality group.

With 37 storeys, the Park Inn features two restaurants, a bar and a top-floor casino. There is also a wellness centre and business centre with eight conference rooms which can accommodate up to 320 people.

Plans are also underway for an EUR100m Radisson SAS Hotel development in Frankfurt. The Opel Kreisel, which is due to open its doors in 2005, will be a futuristic 20-storey building designed by London architect, John Seifert.

Milano interior designer, Matteo Thun, will design the guestrooms and New York-based Adam Tihany the public areas.

The 440-room hotel will have speciality restaurants, nine conference rooms, a business centre and a ballroom. Leisure facilities will include a pool, transparent fitness rooms, whirlpool, sauna, a steam bath, relaxation zone and bar.

The project is under development by Gross & Partner and HOCHITIEF Projektenwicklung GmbH.
