Riviera oil slick dealt with
A large oil slick which forced the closure of beaches near Menton on the French Riviera yesterday has been cleared.
Local authorities set up floating barriers to contain the oil and a clean-up operation has now removed it. The incident came only a couple of days before the start of the Cannes Film Festival.It is thought that the spillage came from an oil tanker at sea illegally cleaning out its tanks.
