Rock Circus to close in a matter of weeks
The Tussauds Group is to close its Rock Circus attraction in London following a decline in visitor numbers.
Bosses cited the continuing strength of the pound against European currencies as a key factor in the closure, and in a statement said: This has adversely affected the Western European youth market, a key target audience for Rock Circus.
Opened in 1989, the music-themed branch of the group's Madame Tussaud's waxworks, spans five decades of pop and rock stars from Elvis to the Spice Girls.
More than six million people visited Rock Circus in its 12 years, but following a full commercial review, Tussauds Group bosses decided to close its doors to focus on growing its Madame Tussaud's portfolio. In the last two years sites have opened in Las Vegas, Hong Kong and New York.
While some portraits will be re-housed at Madame Tussaud's in London, the company aims to place as many employees as possible at other attractions in the group when Rock Circus closes later this summer.
