Rock, paper, scissors…
All of us in this industry know we have to keep up with the big trends - and leisure in particular has lots of them!
The latest is the resurgence of the old playground game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors”, which now has an acronym (RPS), a national league (in the USA), a sponsor (Bud Light) and a tournament claiming world status.
Actually, it’s in Las Vegas, which means it’s almost global in coverage. The recent event had a top prize of US$50,000 and was won by a nurse from Texas.
So, have you run a tournament in your leisure centre, or sports club, yet? Prepare to absorb some jargon, like “cloaking”, “the handshake”, “shadowing”, “paper dolls” and even “The Bureaucrat”.
Another sign of the growth of this fun activity - which has the huge advantage that everyone knows instinctively how to play - is that there’s already two rival governing bodies. Both American, of course.
