Roosevelt New Orleans reopens
Hilton’s Roosevelt New Orleans hotel has reopened following a US$145m (£88m, 102m euro) restoration.
The official opening will take place on 30 July – almost four years after Hurricane Katrina caused the hotel, built in 1893, to close.
The 504-bedroom hotel boasts 135 luxury suites, the Blue Room entertainment venue, the Sazerac Bar and Restaurant, a business centre, private dining and suite butler service, an outdoor pool and a gift shop.
The hotel was acquired from Fairmont Hotels in August 2007 for US$19m (£11.5m, 13m euro) by Dimension Development, who signed a deal with Hilton to reopen the hotel under its Waldorf Astoria brand – though the hotel will keep its historical Roosevelt name.
General manager Tod Chambers said: “The Roosevelt New Orleans is again the prime destination for travellers and locals because of its reputation for glamour and excitement.
“We hope our guests are as excited as we are and that they find that we’ve not only restored The Roosevelt to its original lustre, but that we’ve also introduced the kind of luxury that marks every Waldorf Astoria Collection property worldwide.”
