Rose garden tribute to Diana
A £20m rose garden is to be commissioned in remembrance of Diana, Princess of Wales it was announced at the opening day of the Hampton Court flower show this week.
The 50-acre garden, in St Albans, Hertfordshire, will be managed by the Royal National Rose Society, and is being financed by a combination of corporate sponsorship and private investment. Prince Charles and the Queen Mother are said to support the memorial.
Set to open in 2003, the centrepiece of the garden is a 100ft spire set in rock down which water will cascade. The garden once complete will be one of the largest public memorials to Diana.
Two further gardens will be added at the St Albans site, commemorating the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 and the Queen Mother's centenary, celebrated last year.
