Round Tower transformed into art gallery
Old Portsmouth's historic Round Tower has been transformed into a new contemporary art gallery, which will enable the public to view works by local residents.
More than 30 artists, designers and photographers will have their work put on display inside the tower, following an idea devised by the Strong Island community group. Strong Island is fronting the initiative, in conjunction with the University of Portsmouth and Portsmouth City Council. The exhibition will run between 16 April and 3 May.
University lecturer and Strong Island network member Claire Sambrook said: "The round tower is a landmark in Portsmouth and represents a unique piece of architectural heritage. "We're incredibly lucky to have access to such an unusual building and to open it up to the people of Portsmouth for them to use and enjoy."
