Highgate reveals new oceanfront spa for Royal Lahaina Maui
Royal Lahaina Resort and Bungalows on the Hawaiian island of Maui, US, has launched The Spa at Royal Lahaina as part of the property’s multi-million dollar refurbishment.
The privately owned oceanfront property ranges across 27 acres of oceanfront land on Kāʻanapali Beach. The resort, which was once the preferred retreat for Hawaiian royalty, is entirely operated by hospitality management firm Highgate.
Guests staying in the 333 bedrooms and 127 private bungalows previously had access to a wellness facility called Alana Spa.
A spokesperson from Highgate told Spa Business that the new spa is now located in an entirely new building on the property, “The [new] space was previously a conference centre and was completely reimagined to accommodate the new oceanfront spa setting.”
The 1,200sq ft spa’s interior is by Honolulu-based designers The Vanguard Theory.
The space, which features long windows through which guests can spot whales in the water, has a coastal aesthetic and is inspired by Hawaii’s native ‘Ohi‘a lehua plant. The native flowering evergreen tree symbolises renewal, resilience and transformation. Natural textures, soft neutrals and contemporary furnishings have been combined to create a serene retreat.
The Spa at Royal Lahaina has five treatment rooms plus a manicure and pedicure beauty bar. The building has an open-air oceanfront lanai, a Hawaiian open-sided veranda, for guests to take advantage of the healing benefits of blue mind therapy – a calming state experienced when near water.
The spa’s equipment was supplied by Massage Tools.
Treatments
The Spa at Royal Lahaina offers a range of treatments. These include an exfoliation treatment called Aloha Body Polish, using a locally-made sugar scrub.
There is also a Stellar Stem Cell Package on the spa menu. This treatment is a non-invasive rejuvenating therapy designed to improve skin tone, texture, reduce fine lines, inflammation and leave skin visibly firmer. It consists of a 40-minute facial collagen mask with a massage (lower leg, feet, hands/arms, scalp, shoulders, and décolleté), followed by a facial massage using a super-rich moisturiser and finished with a spray called the Stellar Airbrush. The treatment includes a five-week supply of collagen masks and the spray to extend the treatment benefits at home.
Skincare products at the spa include Kopari Beauty from California and Korean brand Amarte Skincare.
Guests can enhance their treatments with custom add-on therapies. These include a scalp/ foot massage, a CO2 Lift mask by Lumisque Skincare, or a red light therapy using a panel for the face and body by Celluma.
Karen Parker, spa director at The Spa at Royal Lahaina, told Spa Business, “As one of Maui’s most storied resorts, Royal Lahaina has long been a place of connection, restoration and aloha.
"With the debut of The Spa at Royal Lahaina, we’re building on that legacy by offering a wellness experience that is deeply rooted in the island’s culture and natural beauty while also incorporating advanced skincare technology," added Parker. "This is more than a spa – it’s a reflection of Maui’s spirit and Royal Lahaina’s enduring commitment to thoughtful hospitality.”
Other facilities
The resort’s renovation encompassed upgrades to the private bungalows, refreshed public spaces, including two oceanfront pools and the addition of new restaurants.
One of the new dining venues, called The Branches, is open to the public – offering nightly live music from local artists in addition to drinks and charcuterie boards.
Recreational facilities that received enhancements include pickleball and resurfaced tennis courts.
The property, which is is next to Kā‘anapali Golf Courses, also has a fitness centre, offers hula lessons, watersports and complimentary sunrise yoga.
Additionally, there's a cultural centre at the resort as well as Hawaiian and Polynesian fire dance performances at the site's Myths of Maui Lu‘au
