Rugby stars sign up as restaurateurs
Wales rugby internationals Dwayne Peel and Stephen Jones are looking to enter the restaurant business.
The two have joined a team of developers which aims to transform an historic building in the Welsh town of Llanelli into a top restaurant.
Peel and Jones, who play for local team Llanelli Scarlets, have teamed up with restaurateur Simon Wright and construction company WRW to form a new company called Bendigo 9-10, which has been selected by the Llanelli Waterside joint venture partnership as the preferred developer to renovate and run The Pumphouse.
The 120-cover restaurant will form a key part of the £250m redevelopment of the town’s waterside, and will include an open-air bar area.
Bendigo 9-10 also to create a Welsh Chef Academy to help train up younger people wishing to enter the industry.
Simon Wright said that the restaurant would focus on using local produce for the area while producing a facility which would help develop a future generation of great Welsh chefs.
Architects Powell Dobson has been appointed to undertake the design of the property.
