Rural fund benefits Anglesey
Rural communities on the island of Anglesey are to benefit from a £4m investment in the local countryside.
The Rural Development Plan (RDP) funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Union, and secured by the Anglesey Economic Regeneration Partnership (AERP), will finance rural activities over the next two years.
Anglesey's RDP coordinator Eifion Jones said: "The local RDP programme will support hugely diverse projects and enhance economic value on the island. This will include help for rural businesses and tourism, promoting the development of innovative new food products and safeguarding natural environments."
Projects already earmarked to benefit from the funding include a geodiversity project called GeoMôn and repairs to the roof of Anglesey's last thatched cottage.
Bryan Owen, economic development and tourism portfolio holder at the Isle of Anglesey County Council, added: "Our local economy is hugely dependent on the island's countryside, environment and natural beauty. We hope to utilise these funds to improve the sustainability of our communities and economy."
