Russian fitness chain plans expansion
Russian health and fitness operator Strata Partners has unveiled ambitious expansion plans for the next five years.
The operator plans to open up to 60 of its mid-market brand CityFitness and 10 to 15 of its premium brand Orange Fitness.
Launched in 1999 as a consulting company with projects spanning a number of business sectors, Strata Partners is owned by Russian investment company Fitkom and launched its Orange Fitness chain in spring 2002 with two sites, in Saratov and Ivanovo.
The premium clubs offer a gym, exercise studios, a swimming pool, spa centre, children’s club and outdoor programmes. There are currently five clubs in the chain – two in Moscow, one in Ivanovo, one in Krasnodar and one in Kishinev, Moldova – and annual membership costs from £800 to £1,100.
The company launched its mid-market concept earlier this year with the first club opening in Moscow. Annual membership costs from £330 to £440 for CityFitness clubs, which don’t offer swimming pools, feature different equipment to Orange Fitness sites and are located outside of city centres. There are currently three clubs in the chain.
Fitness-Sistema, the official Russian distributor of fitness equipment from around the world – including Technogym, Life Fitness and Hammer Strength – supplies both chains.
Together the Orange Fitness and CityFitness brands attract approximately 10,000 members and Strata Partners’ annual turnover is £6.6m.
The company claims there is the potential for further growth in the country, particularly in the mid-market where it plans to open five to six clubs next year and 15 to 20 every year after that, for the next five years.
It’s main competitor in this market is Planet Fitness with 19 sites, while competitors for its Orange Fitness brand include World Class with 14 clubs and R-Fitness with four facilities.
