S$45m Sentosa Island hotel project dropped
A S$45m (£18.8m, US$31.2m, 21.8m euro) project to build a 200-room resort complete with spa and infinity pool on Sentosa Island, Singapore, has been cancelled.
The Straits Times reports that the NTUC Club, recreational arm of the National Trades Union Congress, said that 'it is no longer viable to continue with the project', with rising land values and high construction costs being cited. Plans for the resort, which would have been NTUC's fourth, were first unveiled in 2005. The 3ha (7.4 acre) site, which belongs to the Sentosa Development Corporation, will now be reviewed for future development, although a Sentosa spokesman is quoted as saying that the land had always been earmarked for sports and recreational use.
