SLL unveils new Shokk gyms for kids
Last month, South Lanarkshire Leisure unveiled two new junior Shokk gyms – at Blantyre Leisure Centre and Stonelaw Sports Centre.
The sites were officially opened by Tommy Burns, assistant manager of the Scottish National Football team.
Development of the two sites, costing a total of £90,000 was funded by the Social Inclusion Partnership (Scotland).
Each site covers around 62sq m (670sq ft) and includes approximately 20 pieces of resistance and strength equipment.
Access to the gyms is through bookable sessions which run for a hour and are divided by age and interest.
A spokesperson for the trust said: “We decided to introduce the Shokk gyms because we wanted to provide health and fitness services for kids in these, and surrounding South Lanarkshire areas, in a fun and relaxed way.
“The gyms are always staffed by an instructor qualified to work with children and who is looking to educate the kids rather than just telling them what to do.”
Following the opening of the gyms in May, South Lanarkshire Leisure carried out 45 inductions per week with local children.
