Science Garden earmarked for Derby park
A new interactive Science Garden is set to be developed at Derby's Alvaston Park after local residents secured a grant worth more than £43,000 towards the proposal.
The scheme will feature a trail offering a number of science-based 'exhibits' located around the park, which aim to encourage users to interact with the gardens and to learn more. At the heart of the Science Garden will be a circular mosaic area created by a local school to represent the sun, along with other features such as a human sundial and a singing stone.
The plans - put forward by a local mother - have been worked on by Alvaston Park Friends and Derby City Council, as well as the Community Spaces programme. Councillor Adam Graves said: "I am really pleased that the Alvaston Park Friends have been able to secure the funding to allow the Science Garden to go ahead."
It is hoped that work will start shortly, with a view to completing the scheme by early 2012.
