Science Mall closes after failing to obtain licence
The Glasgow Science Centre had to close the doors on its Science Mall just one day after its much-celebrated launch last week. Some 1,000 visitors were turned away after operators failed to obtain a public entertainment licence in time, making it illegal to charge entry fees. The Science Mall is phase two of the £75m Glasgow Science Centre following the launch of the IMAX theatre last October. GSC's David Grimmer said that although the centre had fulfilled the requirements of building control, environmental health, and the firemaster, the organisation was still awaiting its full public entertainment licence. The opening of the Science Mall, the mains exhibits building at the centre, has been delayed until this Thursday. The official opening by the Queen will take place as planned on 5 July.
