Scotland announces 2012-13 culture budget
Scottish culture and external affairs secretary Fiona Hyslop has confirmed that the country's national galleries and museums will have revenue funding maintained in 2012-13.
Announcing the department's budget for the period, Hyslop also announced a 2 per cent cut in Creative Scotland's core budget, the agency responsible for promoting arts and culture.
The Scottish Government has allocated £4.6m in capital funding to support three projects in 2012-13, which will include the development of the new V&A at Dundee art attraction.
Two cultural venues in Glasgow will also net funding for improvements ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, along with the planned Battle of Bannockburn visitor centre.
Hyslop said: "I have prioritised my budget to minimise the impact on Scotland's cultural and heritage sector as far as possible, and to deliver key cultural capital projects.
"The Culture Budget will continue to support Scotland's economic potential, through the growth of the creative industries and in opportunities for cultural tourism across Scotland."
Creative Scotland chief executive Andrew Dixon said: "We welcome the recognition that Creative Scotland has already achieved efficiencies in its overhead costs and which has protected our front-line investment in Scotland's creative future."
