Scotland unveils 2014 Ryder Cup campaign
EventScotland and VisitScotland have launched a new media campaign as part of preparations for the 2014 Ryder Cup, due to be held at Gleneagles.
A print and media advertising drive has been unveiled in a bid to capitalise on the conclusion of this year's Ryder Cup, which was held at the Celtic Manor Resort near Newport, Wales. The 2014 Ryder Cup is set to generate £114m for the Scottish economy, while around 45,000 spectators are expected to be attending during the six-day event.
Working in partnership with the Scottish Government, Scottish Development International and Scottish Enterprise, it is hoped the campaign will help raise Scotland's golfing profile. EventScotland chief operating officer Paul Bush said: "We will be working hard as the national events agency to continue to raise the standard of the tournament, and to ensure that the legacy of the matches extend well beyond 2014."
The announcement coincided with the conclusion of the 2010 Ryder Cup in Newport, Wales, which has been regarded as a success, despite rain washing out much of the first day. Earlier this year, it was announced by Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones that hosting the tournament had led to an 11 per cent increase in golfing visitors during 2009.
Wales' National Golf Tourism Monitor for 2009 found that golf tourism had contributed £35m to the economy during the year, up 18 per cent. Speaking at the conclusion of the 2010 Ryder Cup, Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones said: "Many millions of people will be watching this event around the world and that kind of exposure is proving invaluable to us in developing our reputation abroad for business, inward investment and tourism."
