Second phase of Mile End officially opens
The second phase of the Mile End leisure complex in Tower Hamlets has been officially opened by sports minister Richard Caborn and Sport England chair Patrick Carter.
The Mile End Park Leisure Centre is a £15m multi-sport hub which has been part funded by Sport England, Tower Hamlets Capital, New Deals for Communities, Millennium Commission, the Football Foundation, Prudential Borrowing and Planning Gain.
The first phase, which included building new football and athletics facilities, was completed in May 2005.
The second phase, opened on 15 February, incorporated the indoor facilities, including a 25m eight-lane pool, 17m learner pool with movable floor, four-court sports hall and two fitness suites.
