Senior restructuring at Sadler’s Wells
Sadler’s Wells theatre has announced a number of new senior appointments.
Snice the departure of its former chief executive, Jean-Luc Choplin, in March, the senior executive function has been split between the newly-created interim roles of artistic director and general manager.
Alistair Spalding was appointed interim artistic director in April – he joined Sadler’s Wells in February 2000 as director of programming while he commissioned Sadler’s Wells’ May 2004 Hip Hop Festival and co-produced Carlos Acosta’s sell out show in summer 2003.
Meanwhile, Chrissy Sharp continues to hold the interim general manager position. Sharp was appointed to the position in January 2004 and, prior to moving to the UK in 2003, was general manager of the Sydney Festival.
Sadler’s Wells has also announced that a new development director, Sally Ann Muckley; marketing director, Kingsley Jayasekera and technical manager, Emma Wilson, have been appointed.
Muckley joins the venue from the English National Opera, where she was the deputy director of development. She will take up her post on 12 July.
Jayasekera began work at the venue in March 2004. He was previously the group account director at M&H Communications (formerly McCabes) from 2001-2004, where his West End campaigns included Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Tempest, Mamma Mia!, The Full Monty, The Woman In Black and The Mousetrap.
Wilson began as a technical manager at Sadler’s Wells in April 2004, although she first joined the theatre in 2000 as a deputy chief technician. Prior to joining, she worked extensively in overseas touring as a technical manager and designer.
