Seven potential sites for Yeovil Sports Zone
Independent planning consultancy Alliance Planning has shortlisted a total of seven potential sites for the development of a new multi-million pound sports facility in Yeovil, Somerset.
A three-day consultation has been held to allow local residents to view shortlisted options for the Yeovil Sports Zone scheme, which has been proposed by South Somerset District Council (SSDC). Brimsmore Key Site; Bunford; Keyford; Yeovil Recreation Ground; land adjacent to Garador; land close to Huish Park; and Yeovil Showground have all been put forward by Alliance Planning.
The council's plans for the proposed facility include a 50m competition pool, a leisure pool with flumes, a fitness suite, an indoor sports hall, an indoor tennis centre and a climbing facility. SSDC portfolio holder for leisure and culture Sylvia Seal said: "We really want to involve people in the site selection process, so we want the public to see all of the possible sites that have been identified, and help shape the recommendations that Alliance Planning will make to the council in the autumn.
"Even in this financial climate, we need to think of the long term. The need is only going to grow, along with the population, and we'd be failing our residents if we didn't start to make plans for a project for the future. It's about preparing and having a project ready."
