Shangri-La adds to Chinese portfolio
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts opened on the shores of ‘China’s Hawaii’ last week, with the launch of the 337-bed Shangri-La Hotel, Haikou on Hainan Island.
Located next to the sea, amid tropical gardens, the resort has a mix of facilities aimed at leisure and business travellers, as well as the weddings and conference markets.
Centrepiece is the Hall of Splendour, set in the hotel’s tropical garden, with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the sea.
The resort also has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, natural hot spring pools, a gym, tennis court and a spa. Restaurants include Sirena, an Italian seafood restaurant and Café Kool, with chef-manned cooking stations.
Shangri-La has a substantial development pipeline in mainland China, India, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkey and the UK.
