Shangri-La in the Maldives and Paris
Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has opened Traders Hotel in Malé, Maldives.
The 117-room, 14-storey property was previously owned by Male Hotel Associates and opened in September 2009. The hotel offers three restaurants, including the 24-hour Panini café on the lobby level, Lime, for Asian and international fare, and Azur, a rooftop lounge providing European and Japanese fusion cuisine.
The hotel has a rooftop 18.5m infinity pool, complemented by a fitness centre with cv and strength training kit. Meeting space comprises three separate areas, including a 254sq m ballroom.
Shangri-La has also announced the opening of Shangri-La Hotel, Paris in mid-December. The group's first property in Europe, it will occupy the former Palais Iéna in the 16th arrondissement. Built in 1896, the structure is listed with Monuments Historiques and will offer 81 rooms including 27 suites.
Interior design is by Pierre-Yves Rochon. Dining options will include La Bauhinia, an all-day dining restaurant and lounge, and - from early 2011 - a French gourmet restaurant called L'Abeille and Shang Palace, a Cantonese restaurant.
The hotel's Wellness Area is also scheduled to open in 2011 and will offer a swimming pool and a 24/7 fitness centre.
