Shangri-La opens Tower 2 in Shanghai
Luxury hotel group Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts has unveiled the US$138m (£78m, E114m) extension to its five-star Pudong Shangri-La in Shanghai, including its first CHI Spa in China.
The new structure, a 36-storey glass tower, called Tower 2, features 375 rooms and suites, a range of restaurants and bars and a ballroom.
There is also a health club and a glassed-in outdoor swimming pool to complement the CHI spa, which offers some of the largest and most luxurious private spa suites in the city and a range of specialised body, water, massage and facial therapies based on ancient healing traditions, philosophies and rituals from China and the Himalayas.
The tower itself has been designed by New York-based architect Kohn Pederson Fox with the eight bars, restaurants and lounges created by designers including Bilkey Llinas Design, Super Potato and Adam D Tihany.
“With the opening of our new tower, the Pudong Shangri-La is now elevated to a class of its own and is set to become the destination in the city,” said Philippe Caretti, vice president and general manager of the hotel.
“The spectrum of facilities and services presented by the addition of Tower 2 will greatly strengthen the hotel’s competitive advantage in its key market segments, especially individual business travel, conferences and leisure travel,” added Kent Zhu, vice president of sales and marketing.
The hotel now offers a total of 981 rooms and is the largest in Shangri-La’s portfolio
