Sharon Ament - the director of public engagement at the Natural History Museum (NHM) - has been named director of the Museum of London (MoL), with effect from September.
Since 2000, Ament has played a central role in creating transformational experiences and to build the reach and impact of NHM, which is seen as one of the world's leading museums.
Her previous roles include head of marketing and public relations at London Zoo and head of national marketing under Sir Peter Scott at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.
Ament said: "My passion for the people, intellectual output and reputation of London marries well with the work and philosophy of the Museum of London.
"London has a museum that reflects its rich and complex past, a museum that contributes to the city's exciting future and one that is deeply meaningful to its broad community."
