Sheffield’s new Ponds Forge gym is teaming with technology
Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield has opened its upgraded multi-million pound fitness facility, with technology taking centre stage.
Operated by Sheffield City Trust (SCT), the eye-catching new gym is alive with technology, including Pavigym’s Prama system which helps bring the circular gym’s floors and walls to life through audio, visuals and lighting. The club also features the Myzone digital heart-rate tracking platform.
Offering membership at £29 per month, the gym is aimed mainly at the under 30s, as reflected by the heavy emphasis on technology, functional training and senses-stimulating decor. The latest refurb builds on the £3m overhaul led by architects Race Cottam in 2008.
Technogym supplied a range of equipment for the updated Ponds Forge gym, which is the first to feature the supplier’s new Group Cycles and virtual riding system in one of its four studios. Functional equipment was provided by Escape, while there is also an astro-turf sprint track to bring added action to the gym floor.
Designed by architects FaulknerBrowns and opened in 1991, the wider Ponds Forge Sports Centre comprises a sports hall, changing area, spa facilities, a 50m (164ft) Olympic-sized pool and a smaller leisure pool.
