It’s been a fantastic year for us in terms of both innovation and growth.
– Terry Monkton, managing director at Simworx

Simworx is set to take on new projects across East Asia, Mexico and Russia, after experiencing 'fantastic' growth in 2017, managing director Terry Monkton has revealed.

The dynamic media-based attractions specialist has reported a successful year. In the past 12 months, the UK-based company has contracted £30m ($40m, €33.5m) worth of business.

Speaking exclusively to Attractions Management, Monkton said: “It’s been a fantastic year for us in terms of both innovation and growth. We’ve taken orders that will see us produce cutting-edge attractions globally over the next few years.

"In addition to launching new standard products to the market, such as The Mini Flying Theatre and Paradrop VR, we’re delighted to team up with Interlink to produce the World’s First Immersive Superflume.

“The Immersive Superflume is another exciting and highly entertaining addition to our continually growing product range and will bring a totally new dimension to the flume ride experience.”

Simworx has signed a £46m ($61m/€52m) deal with a theme park developer in China that will see the company supply 12 attractions across four new theme parks over the next three years.

It has also partnered with water ride specialist Interlink to develop the Immersive Superflume, a world-first attraction combining a motion base and immersive screens with a water flume. The ride is set to open in December 2019, at a Trans Studio shopping mall currently in development in Ci Buber, Indonesia.

The Immersive Superflume is the second world-first attraction Simworx has developed this year, having partnered with industry newcomer Frontgrid to create Paradrop VR, a new concept that delivers a paragliding experience with gamification elements.

The first Paradrop VR ride is set to open at the Universe Science Park in Denmark next year.

Additionally, the company has three major attractions opening at the long-awaited Parc Spirou in the south of France next summer. The park will feature the recently launched AVG dark ride as well as an Immersive Tunnel and Stargazer motion theatre.

Another opening for the company is the Pirates of Bacclar ride at Amikoo Park on the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. Expected in March 2019, Pirates of Bacclar will feature an Immersive Tunnel with bespoke extended screens and 4k projection. The attraction has a 40-minute running time and features an extensive pre-show and walk-through maze.

Simworx has also sold its first Mini Flying Theatre, which will open in Vietnam in 2019. The Mini Flying Theatre, launched at this year’s IAAPA Expo in Orlando, Florida, is a smaller version of the company’s 360 Flying Theatre. It can accommodate 20 riders per cycle and has a smaller footprint, measuring 13m (42.6ft) by 13m (42.6ft) by 9m (29.5ft).
