Singapore Zoo’s birthday
Singapore Zoological Gardens is celebrating its 30th anniversary in June and sees it as an opportunity to outline its vision for the future.
In a statement, it describes how: “Our Zoo of the future will be a blend of zoological park, a botanical garden, and a natural history museum; where a visit to the zoo will be a series of journeys to destinations, some breathtaking and others exotic. Each journey promises captivating stories and exciting drama for the visitor.”
Singapore Zoo has spent the last few years working on infrastructural developments towards this end.
Five major installations have gone into the attraction since 1999.
The “journey” begins properly this month via a new entrance plaza. Inside, visitors will see a new exhibit, The Elephants of Asia. This is modelled after one of the few remaining sustainable logging areas in Myanmar, where elephants are used. The zoo’s Jungle Breakfast is also being relaunched and a new Jungle Flavours restaurant will open to the public.
