Six Flags plans new water park for Illinois

US-based theme park operator Six Flags has unveiled plans to build a new water park next to its Six Flags America theme park in Gurneee, Illinois.

The 13-acre outdoor park – which will carry the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor brand – will boast more than 25 major water slides, a 500,000 gallon wave pool, waterfalls, water geysers, raft rides and beach areas all designed to make guests feel as though they have just stepped off a cruise ship and onto a Caribbean Island.

The park will also include what Six Flags claims will be the world’s largest interactive waterplay structure: Skull Island.

“The sheer size of this waterplay structure is unlike anything else in the world,” said Tim Black, vice president and general manager of Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. “Six Flags is known for building the biggest and best for our guests and our new waterpark is no exception.’

Skull Island will have 17 towers interconnected by swinging bridges, net climbs and children’s slides as well as hundreds of water gadgets, jet sprayers and water blasters. It is also connected to a 23,000sq ft activity pool for younger children.

The park will also offer an adventure river where guests can float along through waterfalls and landscaping while circling the majority of the park.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Gurnee will be the company’s fourth Hurricane Harbor waterpark – the others are in Los Angeles, California; Jackson, New Jersey and Dallas, Texas – and will have a separate entrance to the Six Flags Great America theme park next door. Details: www.sixflags.com
