Skibo Castle to change hands
Skibo Castle in Sutherland, home to the Carnegie Club, is about to be sold, says the Daily Mail.
The castle - set in 7,500 acres on the Dornoch Firth and formerly home to steelmaker and philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie - was bought by entrepreneur, Peter de Savary, in 1990 for more than £4m and redeveloped as an upmarket sporting club.
Non-members of the Carnegie Club have only one opportunity to stay at the castle before membership - costing over £3,000 per year for a husband, wife and children - has to be taken.
Facilities available to non-member guests include golf on The Carnegie Links, falconry, clay pigeon shooting, tennis, trout and salmon fishing, archery, croquet, mountain biking, walking, bird watching, an indoor pool and gymnasium and sauna and steamrooms.
If the sale, reported to be worth around £27m, goes ahead it will see the castle and its estate being sold by holding company, Westbrook Partners, to a small group from the Carnegie Club. Details: www.carnegieclub.co.uk
