Sleep conference unveils hotel design winners
The results of the European Hotel Design Awards were announced at a gala dinner as part of the sleep.05 hotel design conference this week.
The hotel design of the year award went to Casa Del Mar in Corsica, which also won the new build architecture category over runners up EV in Turkbuku, Hotel Urban in Madrid and the Radisson SAS at Stanstead Airport in London.
The Kruisheren in Maastricht won the restoration, conversion and refurbishment award. Also commended in the category were Hospes Amerigo in Alicante, the Life Galley in Athens and Hotel du Vin in Henley-on-Thames in the UK.
Hotel du Vin in Henley-on-Thames also won the bedrooms and bathrooms interior design award, while the public area interior design award went to Semiramis in Athens.
The runners up in those categories included Soho Hotel in London, College Hotel in Amsterdam and Life Gallery in Athens, and East in Hamburg, College Hotel in Amsterdam and Prestonfield in Edinburgh, respectively.
The judges’ award went to Casa Camper in Barcelona, the test of time award was won by Blakes in London and the outstanding achievement award was take home by Jean-Louis and Gilbert Costes.
Sleep.05 took place in London on 8-9 November. The opening keynote speech on Tuesday was by designer Karim Rashid, designer of the Semiramis hotel in Athens while Wednesday saw former chief executive of Go Airlines and launch chair of the London 2012 bid, Barbara Cassani take to the stage.
