Smithsonian National Zoo appoints new director
Dennis Kelly has been appointed the director of the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington D.C., US.
Kelly, formerly the president of Zoo Atlanta, will be responsible for all operations at the 163-acre zoo at Rock Creek Park as well as the zoo’s 3,200-acre conservation and research centre in Front Royal, Virginia, US.
The zoo attracts more than 2 million visitors each year, employs more than 450 full-time staff and has a combined budget of US$69m (€47m, £42m) for the fiscal year 2010.
