Bangkok is the unusual new location for a winter wonderland after Thailand welcomed the country’s first Snow Town theme park to the capital.

Developed by Thai property developer TCC Land in partnership with Japanese ski-property developer KK daVinci Holdings, the THB200m (US$5.7m, €5.2m, £3.6m) attraction is expected to bring in between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors a year.

With average temperatures year-round in Thailand averaging 27ºC (80ºF), the frosty attraction, which generates around 40cm of artificial snow to play in, will offer a welcome respite from the tropical temperatures of the southeast Asian city.

Located in the city’s Gateway Ekamai Mall and resembling a European ski village, visitors can try a number of winter-themed activities over the 3,000sq m (32,300sq ft) development. The attraction’s main slope – separate from the ski village– is designated for skiing and snowboarding, while other options available for visitors include an area for creating snow sculptures, a ‘play pen’ for snowball fights and an ice luge for tobogganing. In addition to snow on the ground, guests will also experience snow falling from the ceiling, offering the complete winter experience. Next to the snow zone sits Japanese restaurants and a winter-themed shopping arcade also spanning 3,000sq m (32,300sq ft).

While temperatures don’t become freezing cold inside the attraction, visitors feeling the chill can rent warm winter gear including coats, gloves, boots and hats upon entry.
