Somerset House to become hotel?
The Pennethorn wing of Somerset House, the Grade I-listed, 16th century building in London, could be turned into a 140-bedroom hotel.
The property trade magazine Estates Gazette claimed that the wing, currently the home of Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, will be sold off by the government and that hoteliers have been targeted as potential buyers.
The plans to sell the wing have not been set in stone, and so far none of the interested parties have been named.
Somerset House overlooks the Thames and was built by Sir William Chambers for the Duke of Somerset in 1547, before being rebuilt in 1775.
