Somerset museum seeks funding for £1.4m revamp
Somerset County Council is looking for funding to support a £1.4m revamp of the Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury.
The council is hoping to secure a £675,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The project won initial approval for the refurbishment plans with the final proposal to be submitted to the HLF in January.
The council hopes to cover the remaining balance with donations and public fundraising.
The renovations aim to provide greater physical and intellectual access to the museum and its collections as well as providing a dedicated space for learning and community activities.
The project revamp will also create a dedicated indoor learning and activities space, create more exhibition space, install a lift to the first floor of the farmhouse and refresh the museum displays.
Other renovations include improving visitor facilities through the creation of a new visitor welcome area, shop, café and toilets.
The Somerset Rural Life Museum highlights the social and rural history of the county, through exhibitions and displays of traditional crafts.
